We take pride in raising awareness for heart disease, the number one killer of women. We host two philanthropic events each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Our chapter is dedicated to raising money to support the fight against heart disease through the Alpha Phi Foundation.
Fall Philanthropy: Red Dress Gala
The Delta Rho chapter at Ball State, along with many other chapters across the nation, is proud to put on this event every fall. Cassandra Ryan, former president and Director of Philanthropy, brought Red Dress Gala onto Ball State’s campus in 2010.
The event is a formal dinner and silent auction for sisters of Alpha Phi, alumnae and families. All of the sisters wear red dresses in support of women’s heart health because the red dress is the national symbol for women’s cardiac care. Last fall our chapter raised $6, 694.27 during Red Dress Gala and had 400 people in attendance. We thank our sponsors and parents for all of their support.
Spring Philanthropy: Mr. Phi-Nomenal
Mr. Phi-Nomenal is a male talent show that Alpha Phi organizes for the entire Ball State community. With a combination of door prizes, good looking guys performing and money being raised for women’s heart health, Mr. Phi has all of the components of a great time. Talents range from things like yo-yoing, to musical instruments, to rappers, to singers and to magic acts. Just like the sisters in Alpha Phi, the contestants of Mr. Phi are all different, yet wonderful in their own way.
The Delta Rho chapter concluded the Annual Mr. Phi this spring. In recent years, Mr. Phi has been sold out in Ball State’s Pruis Hall. Spring 2015 was the first time is was held in its new location: Ball State Emens Auditorium. We are happy to announce that through Mr. Phi, our chapter raised $10,501 for women’s heart health! We are also happy to announce that Tyler Hostetler was crowned the 2016 Mr. Phi-Nomenal. He swooned the crowd with his magic tricks.
Our Director of Philanthropy, Nikki Schmidt is excited to start planning for the 2016 Red Dress Gala this fall!
